Friday night I had the opportunity to see Chicago's Earthen Grave play at Trophy's along with Hipsterectomy (see post here: Hipsterectomy) and a few other bands. I have to say, I was impressed with Earthen Grave's performance and their execution of their music. Their at times thrash-y, at other times more doom-y metal really exploded in the venue, commanding everyone's attention and interest. Vocalist Mark Weiner's voice really soared above the music while at the same time complimenting it nicely. Guitarists Tony Spillman and Jason Muxlow really took the lead and played some badass riffs. Ron Holzner, formerly the bassist for Trouble, deftly handled some intense bass lines and kept the rhythm section perfectly in step along with drummer Scott Davidson. Even with violinist Rachel Barton Pine missing, they still sounded great. Over all, their sound was well composed and they seemed to really work together to produce some badass music.
