Friday night I finally got to see Brewtality, Inc. perform at Red Eyed Fly. Guitarist and vocalist Houston Ritcheson recently went into cancer remission and is able to perform again. Everyone who knows Houston has been thrilled about this since he's such a badass person and a great musician. The show itself was awesome and full of energy. They conjured up some great old school punk with typical short, fast, lively songs. Their predominate themes centered around being part of the working class, drinking beer and saying "fuck you" to authority. But they weren't your typical, run-of-the-mill punk songs because they obviously had put their own twist on it and owned every song. Houston's raspy voice brought a different, distinct sound to the mix and really made the songs stand out. I definitely had one of their songs stuck in my head the for the rest of the night. They ended the set with a cover of Cock Sparrer's Because You're Young which they asked that the audience sing along to. There was quite a pit going for much of the show and clearly everyone was really happy to see Brewtality, Inc. on stage. Overall I would call the show a huge success and props to the band for really showing us what great punk is all about!
